Playing Out Project Brum Reports

Festival on Melton Road!

Melton Road was one of the most exciting and action packed events that I have been to, with so many different things going on throughout the whole street. There was a huge turnout of people of all ages and backgrounds and quite a few people migrating in from neighbouring streets to see what all the excitement was about. From the live teenage rock band and DJ performing on centre stage to the fire brigade making a social community appearance, there was something for everyone to enjoy.

The Real Junk Food Project partnered up with the ActiveStreets team on the day and provided some really fresh and scrumptious street food, which was a huge hit because let’s face it, who can turn down free food? Well, pay-as-you-feel (if you’re feeling generous). Speaking of food, there was an abundance of it made fresh by a lot of the households on the road, with some of the best homemade flapjacks and pizza I’ve had in a while! I loved how each house had its own little stall outside, whether it was refreshments such as tea and coffee, free homemade food or children selling and trading their Pokemon cards and books with each other. I feel as though it really added to each household’s character and individuality.

As a final note, I have to give praise to the person that came up with the idea of the name and house number stickers for everyone living on Melton Road. I thought it was a nice addition that made it easy for people to see who their neighbours were, and also just provided a more open and friendly atmosphere. I’m really looking forward to Melton’s next event, it has a lot to live up to!
